The Convict Lake and Streams
fishing season starts the last Saturday of April one hour before sunrise and ends on November 15, one hour after sunset. Watch the
video
showing why Convict Lake is considered a premier trout fishing spot.
Convict is full of beautiful rainbow and brown trout.
Each week between 800 and 1,000 pounds of rainbow trout, averaging ¾ lb., are deposited in the middle of the south shore by the CDFG. The local Hot Creek Hatchery along with the CDFG also stock the stream every week during the season. 400 to 500 pounds of "catchable" trout are planted from the bridge down thru the campground in 8 to 12 places. Each month the CDFG adds brooder stock averaging 3 to 4 pounds to Convict Lake.
Six times each year, Mono County purchases Alpers Rainbow Trout for Convict Lake. The beautiful 4 to 7 lb monster trout are raised locally by Tim Alpers. These prize fish are delicious to eat and furious fighters. The resort buys Alpers Trout for opening day as well as for the periodic Fishing Contests held for your fishing enjoyment.
